Competitor Intelligence System

According to Porter (1980), a competitor intelligence system is an organized mechanism for collecting, compiling, cataloging, digesting, analyzing and communicating competitor data. One observes a variety of alternative ways that firms organize to perform these functions from identifying a coordinator or group and then using manual/paper and/or computerized support.

from Porter, M. Competitive Strategy: Techniques for Analyzing Industries and Competitors, New York: The Free Press, 1980.
