Big Picture

Strategists want to view a situation in its entirety or totality. The goal is to examine strategy in the context of the external and internal environment of the organization. The jargon or cliche used in business for this analysis is "big picture", for example "let's get the big picture".

Strategic actions are interdependent and changes in one aspect of a strategic plan affect other actions. Strategic decisions have primary and secondary consequences that should be considered. Globalization has expanded the big picture for many organizations. With a global economy, managers need to look broadly at their business and adapt to an ever-changing competitive situation.
